After reading these experiences from these working class people it made me notice how greatly the Great Depression affected them. Men like Chris Thorsten and Mr. Garavelli have jobs that put them in extreme harm. Chris broke his collar bone and every rib in his body when he was squeezed between a crane. Mr. Garavelli works as a stonecutter around granite and this rock contains silica which can cause diseases like, bronchitis and silicosis. After reading all of these interviews I noticed that everyone of these people disliked their jobs. Anna Novak stated "I'd rather work any place else but in the stockyards just for that reason alone." People like Bernice were so desperate for money they'd even do things against their beliefs to make any money they could. The Great Depression took a huge toll on people's lives. -Corinne G.
After reading all of the experiences on the assignment page, i learned many things about how hard it was to survive for people during the time of the great depression. People such as Clyde Smith had to work on street corners selling fish to make a living, he talked about how hard it was to live because there were many street vendors so he made a catchy tune to sing to get peoples attention. ivring fajans worked at macys and had to do catchy things also to help bring in extra money and be able to live. But also this shows you that times were so hard even women had to get jobs to help support there familys they didn't just sit at home and be housewives, they went out and tried to make something for their kids and tried to build the economy back up. The man from Eddies bar was obviously trying to drink away the depression because when they interviewed him he wasn't making sense. He just said he was in New York but New York isn't him. -Tyler
Group 14's Paragraph:
The Great Depression was a hard time for everyone. The things people had to do to keep alive and put food on the table were so surprising. There was talk about stealing and working many many hours to purchase the necessities of life. People changed alot during the depression. Thier values and beliefs even changed too. Things people did then they would have never done before. The depression reminds me of a competetive game because you may be the nicest person in the world out of the game but once it gets competetive you would do anything to win. The Great Depression was like a huge competition, people were frantically trying to survive and do what ever they could.
